Notice in this passage that Confirmation is a separate sacrament from Baptism, in that those disciples in Samaria had already been baptized. However, the Holy Spirit had not yet fallen upon them, so Peter and John laid hands upon them so they would receive the Holy Spirit. Calling down the Holy Spirit upon those who have been baptized is a separate sacramental action.
